Tianyu Liu — Writer & Director
A New York-based filmmaker with a BFA in
Film Directing from the School of Visual
Arts. His work blends dark humor, surrealism,
and psychological depth, often exploring
themes of contingency and absurdity. His
award-winning short The Story of a Head
That Fell Off, screened at New Filmmakers
New York and won Award of Commendation
at Canada Short Film Festival. With
experience as a director, writer,
cinematographer, and editor, Tianyu has
created a diverse range of short films,
including Another Routine, One Slice, and
Water Is Thicker Than Blood. Currently, he is
developing his debut feature film, whose proof-of-
concept short, “Show Trial,” is in competition at major film festivals.
